New Chandigarh Residential Development

The plan behind New Chandigarh, and where Eco City Township fits within it.

New Chandigarh Residential Development

New Chandigarh is GMADA's planned extension of the Tricity on the Shivalik side. Its development plan envisages a medium-density, self-sustaining urban area rather than an endless suburb. Eco City Township is the plotted residential core that put the plan into motion.

The planning framework

How residential growth has unfolded

Planned vs delivered

The master plan describes provisions and proposals. GMADA's official page describes planned development and historic spending but does not confirm that every facility is complete. For any plot, confirm on the ground that the road, utility or facility you are relying on is operational. Read master plan and amenities.

Zones beyond housing

The plan includes mixed-use and other zones besides residential sectors. These zones will host commercial, institutional and civic uses that make the area self-sustaining. Their development pace will influence how convenient daily life becomes in Eco City.

What it means for buyers

Development is phased, so pockets differ widely. Established areas give certainty; new phases give choice and potentially lower entry with more waiting. See Eco City-1 vs Eco City-3 and townships under development.
